Groups for everyone
Here at Monks Road Methodist we want to try and meet the needs of our community. One of the ways in which we can do this is to provide a variety of groups. We currently have both a men’s and women’s group, a pre-church breakfast group for kids and teens, and a craft group. We hope to expand further in future, and have current plans to start a Homework Club later this year. Find out more about each of our groups below.
Young Spirits is our pre-church breakfast group for kids and teens. It meets at 9:30 am most Sundays (keep an eye on their Facebook page for dates) and aims to support young people in exploring the Bible in a fun, yet contemplative, way.
The group is run by two members of the church who are both fully DBS checked. To find out more about it, you can email them on firstname.lastname@example.org
Women’s Circle is a friendly group that meets once a month during the warmer months when the evenings are lighter. Each month a different speaker shares their knowledge and experiences with the group, and it is a wonderful way to learn about a wide variety of topics. Once a year the group also enjoys a meal together.
Meetings usually start at 7 pm one Monday each month, and their current programme can be downloaded here. All women are welcome to join, and you can simply come along to one of the meetings to get started.
Men’s Group, like Women’s Circle, meets once a month to listen to a speaker share their knowledge or experiences. It is a fantastic way to get to know others in the community, and expand your understanding of the world around us. The group also enjoys a trip once a year.
Meetings usually begin at 7.15 pm, and all men are welcome to join us. Simply come along to the next meeting, the dates of which can be found in our newsletter, which is shared on our news page each month.
Our friendly craft group meets at 10:30 am on a Monday morning in the lounge (Walmer Street entrance). Each member brings their own work-in-progress with them, and they enjoy crafting in the company of others. They then enjoy a soup lunch together.
Everyone is welcome to join them, no matter which crafts you enjoy, or whether you’re a total beginner or seasoned pro. Simply come along to the next meeting, dates of which will be given in each month’s newsletter, which you can find on our news page.
Our new Homework Club (launching on 24th September 2019) runs every Tuesday afternoon during term-time, to support pupils from the local school(s). It starts at 3:30pm and ends at 5pm, and volunteers will be on hand to help pupils complete their homework. There will be access to a laptop when needed, and we will also have a tuck shop to fill hungry bellies after a day at school.
If you would like more information on the club, or if you’re interested in helping out as a volunteer, please contact us here.
The Coffee Drop (launching on 27th September 2019) is an opportunity to come in and grab a cuppa at the end of the week. Every Friday morning, from 9am – 10:30am, our doors will be open, the kettle will be on, and our friendly team will be there to welcome you into our church. We’ll have things like adult colouring sheets for those who want to do something whilst they enjoy a drink, and you’re welcome to come alone for some quiet time or bring a group of friends for a catch up. We hope to see you there.
